The bombings in Masbat, the commercial
district of Dahab, claimed the lives of 23
people and injured over sixty others.
Among them was a British windsurfer,
Henry Luce, who was thrown several
metres when one of the bombs went off.
He suffered lacerations to his arm but was
saved from further injury by his back pack.
He was air lifted to hospital in Cairo where
he was joined by his wife, Teresa, who had
been flown out from Britain by Sportif
International. We understand he has since
returned to the UK and is expected to make
a full recovery.
Meanwhile the windsurfing schools and
hotels in Dahab bay are returning to
normal. Harry Nass reports that although
there were a few cancellations immediately
following the bombing, people were already
booking windsurfing holidays. Among the
first were the Brits (as usual). As we go to
press there have been no announcements
from the Egyptian government regarding
the terrorists although a number of arrests
have been made. That’s not unusual
though. After the Taba bombing 18 months
ago, police arrested several hundred
people, many of them Bedouin, though we
not aware of any charges being brought.
